Based on the experience, I have acquired new information that is related to the concept of misleading statistics. One of the new information is the information on how sample data can be a form of misleading statistics (Steele, 2005). In most cases, statistics make use of the samples and sampling techniques that will yield results for use in generalization. Under such a case, the sample that has been collected is assumed that it covers the entire target population. The argument is not valid as the reality is that the sample might be a minute part of the population. For instance, data can be collected to find out the spread of certain diseases in a given city (Steele, 2005). Results from the sample will show that the sample population does not have the disease. Therefore, the statistics might be used to lie, while in reality, there are several causes of the disease.

The second salient piece of information learned came from the misleading visualizations. Visualization entails a necessary grouping of the target elements (Steele, 2005). It must show the scale that has been used, the origin or value started with, calculation method for the data as well as time. When one of the concepts misses, the statistics will lie as they shall not relay the intended message to the audience.

The interview technique can also be a source of misleading statistics. An interview technique has to come up with the desired results (Steele, 2005). However, an interview technique that is not well-planned will end up with undesired statistics that will yield accurate information but, in the real sense, do not reflect on the actual data (EMC Education Services,2015).
