1. After last week’s presentation, the board of directors wants to continue consideration of a new webstore for Pine Valley Furniture. The board has asked you to assist them in selecting and initiating which project to do. They are considering a webstore for one of their three target markets:

   • Corporate furniture
   • Home office furniture
   • Student furniture

   
   The board wants you to help them determine which project to select and get started on the planning process.
   Prepare a 10- to 16-slide presentation or write a 3- to 4-page executive summary to help the board choose.
   Explain four methods for identifying and selecting IS projects. Compare the characteristics of each and identify the strengths and weaknesses of each method.
   Identify valuation criteria when classifying and ranking the three projects, and then rank them.
   Summarize the project initiation and planning process so the board knows the next steps.
   Cite any references according to APA guidelines.

PVF manufactures high-quality wood furniture and distributes it to retail stores throughout the United States. Its product lines include dinette sets, stereo cabinets, wall units, living room furniture, and bedroom furniture. In the early 1990s, PVF’s founder, Alex Schuster, started to make and sell custom furniture in his garage. Alex managed invoices and kept track of customers by using file folders and a filing cabinet. By 1994, business expanded and Alex had to rent a warehouse and hire a part-time bookkeeper. PVF’s product line had multiplied, sales volume had doubled, and staff had increased to 50 employees. By 2000, PVF moved into its third and present location. Due to the added complexity of the company’s operations, Alex reorganized the company into the following functional areas:

• Manufacturing, which was further subdivided into three separate functions—Fabrication, Assembling, and Finishing
• Sales
• Orders
• Accounting
• Purchasing

Alex and the heads of the functional areas established manual information systems, such as accounting ledgers and file folders, which worked well for a time. Eventually, however, PVF selected and installed a network server to automate invoicing, accounts receivable, and inventory control applications.

A project budget is needed to control and document project expenses before the project work begins. In the initiation phase of the project, a high level estimate is needed on the cost of the project and the potential return-on-investment for the project. After the project has been approved, or approved based on the financial obligations, this preliminary estimate, must be refined in detail, to project the expected costs of the project, and be able to assess the potential values that it will add to the organization.

Note: Introduction and Purpose section of the subsidiary must be used to explain, in your words, the purpose of the respective project management subsidiary plan. This will be an opportunity for you to explain your understanding of each of respective knowledge domain.

An ‘exemplary’ score (2.25-2.50 points) will reflect a foundational understanding of the knowledge domain and how it integrates with your specific project in the portfolio business case. This must include the exact format requirements, it must follow the instructional guidelines, and it must align with your specific project. Errors with format, or lack of compliance with the requirements, or a mis-aligned with the content of your project will result in a loss of points. An ‘effective’ score (2.00-2.24 points) will reflect a basic understanding of the essential components of the ‘subsidiary plan.’ Errors with format, or lack of compliance with the requirements, or content not related to the specific [project, will result in a loss of points. An ‘ineffective’ score (0-1.99 points) will reflect a subsidiary plan or artifact that is poorly organized and difficult to read, one that takes the words of the resource template and uses them, one that lacks format exactness and does not follow the requirements, and/or is unrelated to your project in the portfolio.

we are doing a big portfolio project which contains 5 individual small projects. my responsible part is the marketing.

Networks have changed drastically over the last 30 years. With the first introduction of the 56k modem, which was about 3 typewriter pages per second, to speeds well over 1Gbps these days, the ability to use networks globally, has changed the way we do business. Using research, determine where networks will go in the next 5-10 years and how that might impact the global economy.
